As an example case study, Japan is currently the country with the oldest population in the world.
- As of September 2024, 29.3% of Japan’s population is 65 or older
- This figure accounts for 36.25 million people
- 2040 forecast: 34.8%

- According to Japan’s National Police Agency in 2024, over 76,000 people passed away alone in their homes
- 76.4% of these people were 65 or older
